Saunarauha – peaceful paintings of saunas
The exhibition title, “Saunarauha,” embodies the Finnish philosophy that within the sauna, one leaves behind politics, religion, and noise to embrace mutual respect and inner quiet. Through these watercolor works—ranging from detailed textures of wood to minimal, ethereal compositions with gentle animal characters—Pive captures the sauna as a sanctuary from the world’s current turmoil.
Kettu Galleria is an art brand by Finland-based visual artist Pive Toivonen. Through watercolor, she documents moments encountered in Finnish nature and saunas, using a gentle palette and soft, expressive brushwork. Human beings are depicted as animals who contemplate nature and the peace. During the summer months, she is based at her gallery in Sauvo, and at times spends extended periods sailing, continuing to document landscapes and everyday life as they unfold by the sea.
Meet the Artist: Saturday, February 7th Join us on February 7th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (13:00–16:00) to meet and chat with the artist. We will also have a selection of art prints available for purchase on the day.
Suomeksi:
Saunarauha – hiljaisia kuvia saunoista
Saunassa ei puhuta politiikkaa eikä haasteta riitaa. Se on paikka, jossa vallitsee keskinäinen kunnioitus ja rauha. Pive Toivonen on tallentanut onnelliset saunahetket pelkistettyihin akvarellimaalauksiin.
Kettu Galleria on kuvataiteilija Pive Toivosen luomus.
Tilaisuuden aikana on mahdollista ostaa upeita taidevedoksia kotiin vietäväksi.

South Estonia — February 2026.
The first-ever International Sauna School will open its doors in South Estonia next February,
offering participants from around the world a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the ancient
Estonian smoke sauna tradition. The 7-day experiential programme is held in the historic Ärni
smoke sauna, a site whose practice represents one of Estonia’s most meaningful contributions
to global cultural heritage.
Two identical courses will be offered:
- 2–8 February 2026

Rooted in Finno-Ugric heritage, the International Sauna School combines theoretical
knowledge, practical skills, ritual-based learning, herbal practices, breathwork, personal
development and community care. Participants will learn how to prepare and maintain a
traditional smoke sauna, how to guide sauna rituals for others, and how to understand the
cultural and spiritual values that make the Estonian sauna tradition unique.
“We are very happy to introduce Estonian sauna culture deeply to international participants,”
says Edina Csüllög, organiser and director of the Finno-Ugric Film Foundation.
“This course is made for people who love the sauna — and also for those who wish to take this knowledge home and eventually work as saunakeepers in their own countries.”

- Finno-Ugric sauna philosophy and spiritual practice
- Heating, preparing and upkeeping a traditional smoke sauna
- Techniques for guiding meaningful community sauna sessions
