Boston Terrier Iiris loves to bathe in the sauna! She needs no more than a hint about heating up the sauna; one mention of the word and she is already waiting eagerly at the door. When the sauna door finally opens, Iiris leaps onto the highest bench and lies down with a pleased sigh.
Iiris was less than a year old when she started sauna bathing. She liked to nosey around when the wood-burning sauna in our yard was being heated up, and snuck onto the benches of our cosy sauna by herself. When autumn came, Iiris was already so enthusiastic about the sauna that she also joined us in our indoor sauna.
Iiris gets easily cold and that is probably why she enjoys the warmth of the sauna so much. If the sauna is very hot, she only stays for a little while. When the sauna is at the perfect temperature for her, she stays so long that I sometimes have to take her to the shower room to cool down. Iiris usually knows her limits well, though. If the sauna is too hot, she jumps onto a lower bench or asks to be let out. If we wash Iiris after the sauna, she needs to be dressed warmly afterwards. Otherwise she ends up shivering from the cold.
